Thus far

Character is 99% done. Just some texture tweaks and geometry nudging. Otherwise I'm doing my best to bust out some props.

Oh, her names is Emily.

This lighting set up is purely temporary. Ignore the ugly shadows :)

So it's not done yet...

I wanted to finish it before school started, but school starts tomorrow, so this is as far as I got. I ain't givin' up, that's for sure. The character is 97% done, I just want to make a cool scene for her to be in. I've already got the assets finished, just have to make them render ready and what not. So soon! Sooooooooon!!!!!

She needs a name... can't keep calling her "painter."

Hmmmmm

Added some much needed character to the face. Much better than the dead look of the standard pose. Should have the whole pose soon!

Year 1

Hell with an intro, let's get to it:

Ok, a little intro...

This isn't everything I did this year, just the stuff I feel like showing. Don't worry you aren't missing much.

Let's get the boring stuff out of the way. Below are a bunch of different seamless textures. Seamless meaning that if you were to tile any of these textures you would not see where the individual tiles meet. Think M.C. Escher's tessellation art.

Feel free to take any of them if you want. No credit needed.

Below is an example of one of the textures being tiled. As you can see, there are no seams.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These models are for a character I'm not showing because, well, it's far less interesting then these assets.

You've already seen the robot, but why not see the cool details! I really love how the hand/claw turned out. This would be really cool to texture. I might get to it someday, but the legs would need a whole lot of work. ... So I probably won't >.<

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are some assets for the following render of a basic school hallway. I really love how the vending machine came out.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next two pictures are rendered with Mental Ray, which is a piece of software in Maya that allows you to render photo-realistic images and movies. These images can take takes hours to render, both of mine only took about an hour and a half. Only? Yeah, each frame of Pixar-esque movies would take dozens of hours, possibly days to render on one computer, which is why they have render farms of hundreds of computers working together, to do it much quicker and more efficiently.

Here's the hallway. Can you identify that poster?

This is a still life of some of the assets I'd like to use for the final scene for my latest character, the painter.

There you have it! Onto bigger and better things! ... Oh wait, I still have to rig my character... :(

Stick a fork in her, cause she's done!

So I lied about getting the final character posted the next day, but school and what not... Anyway, tada! Super excited and pleased with how she came out. Just wait until she is posed! Characters can only look so good in the A-Pose, but once you get it standing in the way a normal person would and with an actual expression on their face, then bam! ... and what not. Um. Oh, make sure you open it in a new tab* so you can zoom in and check out all the details. I didn't paint 4k textures for nothing! My poor computer was seriously suffering near the end there. The Photoshop files were over a gig each. It's ok Arya, you did well. ... Yeah, I named my computer Arya, don't judge.

At some point I will probably create a more detailed post with different angles and breakdowns.

Next is to build the set, which is already coming along nicely. Until next time!

*right-click > open image in new tab

edit: apparently there are file size limitations to image hosting, so unfortunately you can't look at the 4k render I made... oh well, that's why I'll be making a more detailed post

Bonus picture!

Good ol' Chucks (800 polygons)

I present a pair of converse shoes in all their glory.

"But wait a minute Henry, weren't you working on a full character?"

"Just a shoe?"

"Who posts a shoe, honestly?"

Don't you worry your pretty little head, the textures and model are only a couple days away from completion. One. Hundred. Percent. Completion.

aka - This a preview of what is to come.
As in the character.
Modeled and textured.
It's past 2 am.
I should sleep.
...
Son of a... the spec maps aren't right...
